20 Questions with Mark Vanfleet


Mark Van Fleet plays tapes, guitar, electronics and voices in Sword Heaven, a pummeling behemoth of sub metal noise terror from Columbus, as well as working for The Wexner Center, Running his mobile Van Gallery and being a generally wonderful person. Ogkijn got the chance to ask him 20 questions.

O- do you think rock music has been a catalyst for a larger cultural change or revolution?
M- Sure, "rock talk" now occupies at least 75% of daily conversation amongst most dudes I know.

O- did you ever get caught up in the whole peer-pressure thing?
M- Not too much.

O- do the KGB have a file on you?
M- No.

O- what's your philosophy of life
M- Listen to and make strange music, read stuff, love somebody

O- what has the world done to make your heart so black?
M- What hasn't it done?

O- are you american or canadian?
M- American.

O- did you ever have to go to the bathroom?
M- Yes.

O- after all these years, do you ever find it difficult to remain fresh?
M- Sometimes.

O- do you still say "suck a dick, bitch" all the time?
M- No, not really.

O- so how would you describe the perfect world?
M- I don't think I can answer that one, it would probably involve boats, music, and peace though

O- when did you first hook up with Elvis Presley?
M- Never did.

O- so tell me, in your observations of orangutans, or any species,have you ever noticed animals engaging in acts of cruelty or torture for their own purposes of what we humans would call sport or what i would call pleasure?
M- Klaus jumps on Nigel all the time when he's sleeping or otherwise enjoying being by himself.

O- how do you feel about bands that list Danger Danger as an influence?
M- Not sure who that is.

O- did you ever meet Andy Warhol, and under what circumstances?
M- No.

O- does he do that freaky thing with his eyes all the time?
M- huh?

O- how do you keep it together?
M- I get up about the same time every day.

O- are you surprised at the popularity of wrestling today?
M- No.

O- can you remeber where you were when you heard that elvis was dead?
M- No.

O- why do you hate jazz?
M- I don't.

O- have you ever watched people have sex?
M- No, but I'd like to!
